Data, how we handle it and how we protect it is now an urgent and essential issue for all businesses – not just accountants.

Accountants in Practice are uniquely positioned as being entrusted with massive amounts of sensitive client data, and yet very few have any policy or procedures in place to help in the event of a security breach, or in the loss of the data or access to it – leaving themselves open to severe breaches of trust, significant losses in terms of down time, and possibly exposed to litigation.

In reference to the Data Protection Act, ICAEW Practice Assurance reinforces the need for all firms to register under the Act, whilst also stressing the need to have Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plans set in place to help with this.

PracticeWEB has worked with the International Association of Accountants Innovation Technology Consultants (IAAITC) to offer this half day course that will enable you to:

• Develop, implement, and manage your own Information Security Management System (ISMS) – please note, attendees shall receive comprehensive documentation to help guide them through this process

• Enable the practice to develop this as a fee paying service to your small business clients

During the course, Ian Sumbler, IT Partner & Data Controller of Morris Owen, shall share his vast experience to explain the practicalities in dealing with the issues at hand.

About IAAITC:

The IAAITC was founded as a non profit making organisation in March 2004 and provides accounting firms across the world access to the very best advice and methodologies around the use of their IT systems and infrastructure, as well as helping them to develop new fee earning services to their clients.

Their reputation and services have enabled them to develop working relationships with the major software suppliers, accountancy related networks and UK and EU Government agencies, such as the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA), the Cabinet Office, and the Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR). This has led to the IAAITC working with a range of other European nations to help implement and establish Best Practice within this area.
